Obama Drags the US Into War #4

In a recent release from the New York Times President Owe-bama has got us once again in another war in the Middle East.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has intensified the American covert war in Yemen, exploiting a growing power vacuum in the country to strike at militant suspects with armed drones and fighter jets, according to American officials.

The acceleration of the American campaign in recent weeks comes amid a violent conflict in Yemen that has left the government in Sana, a United States ally, struggling to cling to power. Yemeni troops that had been battling militants linked to Al Qaeda in the south have been pulled back to the capital, and American officials see the strikes as one of the few options to keep the militants from consolidating power.
On Friday, American jets killed Abu Ali al-Harithi, a midlevel Qaeda operative, and several other militant suspects in a strike in southern Yemen. According to witnesses, four civilians were also killed in the airstrike. Weeks earlier, drone aircraft fired missiles aimed at Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical American-born cleric who the United States government has tried to kill for more than a year. Mr. Awlaki survived.
The recent operations come after a nearly year-long pause in American airstrikes, which were halted amid concerns that poor intelligence had led to bungled missions and civilian deaths that were undercutting the goals of the secret campaign.
Officials in Washington said that the American and Saudi spy services had been receiving more information — from electronic eavesdropping and informants — about the possible locations of militants. But, they added, the outbreak of the wider conflict in Yemen created a new risk: that one faction might feed information to the Americans that could trigger air strikes against a rival group.
A senior Pentagon official, speaking only on condition of anonymity, said on Wednesday that using force against militants in Yemen was further complicated by the fact that Qaeda operatives have mingled with other rebels and antigovernment militants, making it harder for the United States to attack without the appearance of picking sides.
I thought Owe-bama hated war or maybe its he hates wars he didn't get to start?

Owe-bama as in how much money this country owes due to Owe-bamas excessive defecit spending. and with a fourth war that debt will only get bigger.

I know our military is being stretched far too thin.
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

According to news this morning... the drone attacks are still happening and even stepped up. It's a Nintendo war but it is in fact involving us in yet another place and yeah... we are stretching it way to thin. If there was an end in sight to all this then perhaps it makes more sense. Ultimately though... it seems to be just getting worse and worse. Hard to see where this is going to come out good.... in a multitude of ways.

I think this proves what I have thought for sometime. The president is just a finger puppet for the real powers that be.

'Nintendo War!!!'....good point, and it just might lead to 'boots on the ground' if he steps up the drone attacks. I think he is willing to step up the use of these drones all over the area, not realizing that this could just suck us in when more and more is expected of us....we need to choose our fights wisely.
But, I will say this, Yemen has long been a stronghold for the training of 'new militants', so I do not fault him on this; I just think we need to do this wisely and slowly with the understanding that we are in no way ready for a 'boots on the ground' presence in another confrontation...

No... can't really fault him here either. Kick in the butt is... it's probably necessary and we're getting sucked in to a fight that I don't think we have a choice but to get sucked into. One of those damned if you do... damned if you don't... just plain damned situations. It will be political fodder because that is the nature of the politics beast. Each side would complain if the other side was doing this but then each side would do this if they were in charge of the military because it is one of those things that all of the politicians know we have to involve ourselves in for strategic reasons. Maybe it is the price of being a "super-power"... maybe it is the fruit of arrogance even. But nevertheless... figure it is something we'd have to do regardless.

Hate it... but I can't fault him for doing this and before folks start going CUJO on this... if it was Bush doing it ten years ago... you'd be waving the flag and backing him 100 percent and you liberal guys that back the president now... most of you would be screaming like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs if Bush would have done it. Hypocrisy seems to know no bounds.

I think it is more like the president dropped the ball when he had a chance to take out the Colonel easily, and now he will have to do it the hard way. He committed too late, but he committed. Now that he is committed, he can't walk away.

One can only wonder. In either case another war [anywhere by any country] is a travesty and my hope and prayer is for peace as insane as that may sound in the current world context.

Seriously the US is in way over its head and it looks like we are entering into WWIII. To the muslim world we must look like invadiners and I do believe we are not accomplishing anything for the good. The muslim world may in the near future get China to help them out in driving out western invaders. I wonder if Owe-bama has the good sense God gave a rock to look at what he is doing and pull out before this becomes a real firestorm from which there is neither victory nor retreat from. Nope Owe-bama is as dumb as a box of rocks. Whatever the issue he will be on the wrong side of it no matter what.

"We look back on history and what do we see; empires rising and falling, revolutions and counterrevolutions, wealth accumulated and wealth dispersed. Shakespeare has spoken of the rise and fall of great ones, that ebb and flow with the moon.
I look back upon my own fellow countrymen, in England. Once upon a time dominating a quarter of the world, most convinced, in the words of what is still a popular song, that the God who made them mighty will make them mightier yet.
I've seen a crazed cracked Austrian announce to the world, he would, "establish a Reich that would last a 1000 years".
I've seen an Italian clown saying he was going to, "stop and start the calendar with his [own] ascension to power".
I've heard a murderous Georgian brigand, in the Kremlin, proclaimed by the intellectual elite of the world, as a wiser than Solomon, more human than Marcus Aurelius, more enlightened than a shokur
I've seen an America wealthier, and in terms of military weaponry more powerful than the rest of the world put together, so that if, the American people so desired they could have outdone a Cesar or Alexander, in the range and scale of their conquest.
All in one lifetime. All in one lifetime. All gone, gone with the wind.
England part of a tiny island off the coast of Europe, threatened with dismemberment and even bankruptcy.
Hitler and Moussolini remembered only in infamy.
Stalin a forbidden name in the regime he helped found and dominate for some three decades.
America haunted by fears of running out of those precious fluids that keep her motorways roaring and the smog settling. with disastrous memories of a disastrous campaign in in Vietnam, as the media charge the windmills of Watergate.
All in one lifetime. All in one lifetime. All gone.
Behind the debris of all solemn supermen and self styled diplomatists, there stands the gigantic figure of one person, because of whom, by whom, in whom, and through whom alone, man may still have peace.
    THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST."
