    The Meaning of Genesis 3:15

What is the meaning of Genesis 3:15?

What does it mean when it says in Gen 3:15 "your offspring and hers?"
The KJV uses the word seed. In Hebrew = Zera (H2233).

(Gen 3:15 NIV) And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

(Gen 3:15 KJV) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:15 is the promise to satan by God, that God will send someone to defeat him, and redeem the sin of man kind. That person was Jesus Christ Our Lord

That's the short version of what Genesis 3:15 means in a nut shell.

    2 Peter 1:20-21:

"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation. For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."

Search and believe the Scripture, before you believe anything man tells you.

    In its most narrow application...

The seed of the woman is Christ - The son of man
The seed of the serpent is anti-christ - The son of perdition
Eph 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will

Thanks all for your replies. I have heard some really strange teachings regarding this verse, but all these explanations sound good to me.

The NIV uses zera' as well, it's translators just chose to use offspring over seed. Seed is the proper word, as the context of zera' stems from the act of sowing (as in sowing seed) and not from what grows from that seed.

As for the meaning, I will have to think about that. Maybe there is something to men being from Mars and woman from Venus?

This seed is Christ! He came by woman and was able to conquer sin. Christ is that enmity, he knows he has but a short time. Christ qualified to be King over all the earth at a time in the future. He and his saints will rule the earth.

Interesting that the last part says "you will strike his heel."

Look at Malachi 4:3 speaking of a day yet future, when Christ will restore the government of God to earth --"3And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts."

The children of disobedience will be ashes under the soles of the saints.
